The Programme offers learners the chance to explore their need for self-expression through various structured and exploratory courses in visual art, music, cooking, dance and photography.
The TGS-Wadi Art Programme is inspired by David Perkins’ ‘Studio Thinking’ approach to arts education.  The driving idea is that art education can instill powerful habits of mind in learners like develop a craft, engage with a problem of either personal or wider significance, persist, envision that which cannot be seen and plan the possible next steps in the making of a piece, express and idea or feeling, observe, reflect, stretch and explore and understand the aesthetic bent of human endeavour.
The TGS-Wadi Arts Programme is structured as modular courses where students focus on one single arts discipline for a set period, and then move on to another.

THE ART AND CRAFT PROGRAMME

Students are immersed in the discipline from ideation to expression in the following areas: Drawing and Colouring, Printing, Paper Craft and Mixed-media, Modeling, Designing and Print Media.

Students of grades 5 and above may choose Vocal Music as one of their Art Workshop disciplines based on innate talent and musical bent of mind. They continue to practice in different genres and also work with Karaoke and simultaneously try their hand at compositions.  Students learn how to convey the mood and expression of a song after learning technical skills like breath control, articulation, diction appropriate to style, ad libs consistent with the genre, control of tone in sustained notes as well as when moving across the vocal range, and attention to the dynamics.
Additionally, students also have a choice to prepare and appear for the Trinity Rock and Pop Vocal Music Exam. As students progress through the grades, they get to explore classical and contemporary pop and rock music. The song list includes music by Dusty Springfield, George Michael, Leona Lewis and Jeff Buckley among others.

All keyboard students take the Trinity Keyboard Music Exams at the end of the year. Syllabus covers various music exercises ranging from lower and simpler notational music to higher tempo, involving wider range of keys. Students practice skills like choosing a suitable keyboard voice, changing the voice at some point to add contrast, using a variety of dynamic levels, use of sustaining pedal, soft pedal and effects (fills, dual voice, split voice etc.) wherever applicable. The song lists for the Trinity Keyboards Exams include music by ABBA, David Bowie, Michael Jackson and Miley Cyrus.

The Cooking Programme

Lifestyle issues like low activity levels and poor nutritional choices contribute significantly to obesity, heart health issues and type-2 diabetes, among others. Teaching children to cook is a good way to teach them healthy habits that they can carry on to adulthood, and it is also an excellent way to reinforce what they learn in science, math, and language classes.

Furthermore, it provides a fun, hands-on way to introduce learners to other life skills like budgeting and problem-solving.
TGS-Wadi offers a course in basic cooking skills to students from grades 5 to 9, where they explore preparation, basic cooking methods and recipes, essential kitchen tools, knife-using skills, ingredient choices and spice combinations. Processes are the focal point of cooking classes. Beginning with boiling and scaling up to baking, students move through steaming, roasting, shallow and deep frying processes.
Students from grades 5 and 6 are guided through these processes, and encouraged to reflect on the outcomes for better practice next time. Grades 7 to 9 are encouraged to be more involved in the process of creation by being more observant and innovative. Students are taught about food and kitchen safety, and how to make healthy choices regarding ingredients and cooking techniques. This year onwards, students will also learn napkin folding, table arrangement, types of cutlery and their uses. The whole journey would end in planning a menu, table arrangement and etiquettes.
